Re-thinking School with Dayna Martin
Many argue that the real pandemic is dependence on authority, fear of judgement, and an inability to critically think. But are these human qualities or are we conditioned to disconnect from our own inner compass in service of authoritarian power structures, from birth?
Have you asked yourself where you learned obedience and rule-following as a virtue?
Many of us can trace this conditioned behavior back to our childhood, having been raised in hierarchical households and forced to attend rule-based schools where we were punished for deviant individual expression and rewarded for sheepish compliance.
Now, as we awaken to self-sovereignty, we are being asked to unhook from all systems of control we dutifully outsourced our power to over our lifetime. But to begin the process, we must first get curious about how we are still operating from a mindset that derives safety from rules.
My new friend, Dayna Martin, is an advocate, educator and author on the topics of natural childbirth, attachment parenting and unschooling. And during this time of ascension, she believes that children are next on the human rights agenda and that self-guided education is the first step on that reclamation path.
Dayna has been instrumental in helping me shift out of assumptions and fears that were keeping me tethered to a structured educational system. I agree with her whole-heartedly when she says, “if you want peace in the world, start at home.”
